St.George OpenAir

On Friday night, 10 February 2017, the inaugural Telluride Mountainfilm Tour of Australia and New Zealand launched at the St.George OpenAir Cinema.
2,000 people flocked into the St.George OpenAir Cinema for the event - one of Australia's largest audiences for an outdoor adventure film night.  In the crowd were a host of special guests including Gail Kelly, former CEO of Westpac, Australia’s leading climbing photographer Simon Carter, Australia’s best female rock climber Monique Forriester and the editors of Great Walks Magazine and Australian Photography Magazine Brent McKean and Mike O’Connor.
After brief introductions, the crowd were treated to a series of great short films ranging from the world record slackline in Across the Sky, to plummeting down sheer ski slopes in Angel Annihilates Alaska, to Icelandic surfing in The Accord. The crowd was full of laughs, gasps and applause throughout the night describing it as “an AWESOME show”, “an outstanding night and content” and “blown away”.

Held every Memorial Day weekend, Telluride Mountainfilm is a documentary film festival that showcases nonfiction stories about environmental, cultural, climbing, political and social justice issues that matter. Along with exceptional documentaries, the festival goes beyond the film medium by bringing together world-class athletes, change makers and visionary artists for a multi-dimensional celebration of indomitable spirit. Mountainfilm, which includes interactive talks, free community events, a gallery walk, outdoor programming and presentations, aims to inspire audiences to action on worthy causes.
